Cosmetic Bonding

Would you like to perfect your smile in only one hour? Cosmetic bonding can change your smile in just one appointment giving you the confidence to show off your smile.

Cosmetic bonding can make your teeth appear straighter, close gaps and correct imperfections in your smile. This one hour makeover allows you to get rid of those imperfections without having to undergo lengthy treatment or wear braces.

Porcelain veneers were placed on both the upper and lower teeth, eliminating the spaces and yellow discolouration. A whiter, more youthful smile resulted.

What Is Cosmetic Bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is the application of a tooth-coloured composite resin (like a white filling ) to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored tooth. Unlike porcelain veneers, which are made in a laboratory, composite bonding can be used to transform the appearance of one or more front teeth in just one short appointment.

Cosmetic bonding does not normally require any preparation and is completed in around one hour, without the need for anaesthetic.

When Would I Need Cosmetic Bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is an ideal option if you are looking for instant results – if you are a bride to be who wants to quickly transform her smile for her special day. It can treat:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Crooked or uneven teeth
  • Discoloured teeth

What Is The Procedure?

For cosmetic bonding, the tooth or teeth do not normally need to be prepared and anaesthetic is often not necessary.

We start by selecting the colour of the composite resin to be used. The tooth surface is lightly etched or roughened which helps the composite resin to bond to the tooth. The resin is moulded to the tooth and shaped. An ultraviolet light is shone onto the tooth to help it harden. We then sculpt, shape and polish the tooth so that it matches the colour and sheen of the rest of your teeth to provide a pleasing result.

It usually takes about an hour to complete the procedure.

What Are The Benefits Of Treatment?

Most often, composite bonding is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discoloured or chipped tooth. It also can be used to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth longer or to change the shape or colour of teeth.

We also use cosmetic bonding as recession fillings to help prevent temperature sensitivity when the tooth's root has been exposed due to receding gums.

Bonding is among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures.

How Will I Feel After Treatment?

If you have anaesthetic during your procedure, you may feel numb for a few hours. Once the numbness has worn off, you can speak, bite, chew and eat as normal.

How Long Will Be Cosmetic Bonding Last?

Composite bonding is not as strong as your own natural tooth. Biting your fingernails or biting on hard foods and substances can chip the bonding.

Bonding usually lasts several years but will need to be repaired or replaced. How long it actually lasts depends on you and how well you look after your cosmetic bonding and your other teeth. Regular dental check ups and visits with our dentist will help.

How Much Will My Cosmetic Bonding?

We understand that price is an important consideration. Like any dental treatment, the cost of your cosmetic bonding is dependant on the number of teeth that need treatment, the complexity of your treatment, how long your treatment will take, the quality of the materials used and the artistic ability of your cosmetic dentist.

When you come to see us for your first consultation, we will determine the most appropriate treatment for you and provide you with a treatment plan and cost.

Your cosmetic bonding is guaranteed for one year.
